Peg Perego High Chair Replacement Cushions

I have the best high chair ever. It is called a Peg Perego Diner High Chair. It has lasted many years and through several kids in the family. Unfortunately, after its many years of use, we desperately needed a new high chair cushion. Ours is stained, torn, and smelly from getting wet. I searched and searched and it was very difficult to find a Peg Perego High Chair Replacement Cushion. I finally found them and found that they sell two different kinds of high chair pads to fit

my high chair. They make some in vinyl and some in a leatherette material. My original chair had a vinyl

cover, but the leatherette pad is the same size, so I decided to try the leatherette pad this time since it looks a little more durable. It is not made of real leather, but it is a man made material that is pretty strong and looks similar to leather. The cushion I bought has holes in the back of

the pad to accomodate a 5pt harness, but it can work with older Perego high chairs that only have a 3pt harness too. My chair has a passive restraint bar between the childs legs and the cushion I found is made to fit my chair perfectly with a hole for that straddle bar.
One important thing I did learn about the chair pads and can recommend to anyone that owns a Perego High Chair is, what ever you do, no matter how dirty the cushion seems, DO NOT ever

do any of the following to your chair: submerse it in water (soak), put it in the washing machine, put it in the dishwasher, or hose it down outside. The inner sponge will get wet and you will NEVER be able to stop it from smelling stinky!

TUESDAY, Jan. 13 (HealthDay News) -- The popular cold remedy Vicks VapoRub may cause airway inflammation that can restrict breathing in infants and toddlers, a new study says.

Doctors at Wake Forest University started their study after treating an 18-month-old girl who had developed severe respiratory distress after the salve had been put directly under her nose to relieve cold symptoms.

"The company is really clear that you don't put it in the nose, and you never use it in kids under 2," said lead researcher Dr. Bruce K. Rubin, professor and vice chair for research at Wake Forest's Department of Pediatrics. "Sure enough, when we stopped all the medicine, the child got much better very quickly."

Rubin's experience prompted him to see if there had been other similar cases. "We encountered a few others that appeared to develop problems after using Vicks VapoRub. Parents never volunteered it, because they always thought it is just something you buy over-the-counter, and it's not a real medicine, because you just rub it on, after all," he said.

Rubin said Vicks VapoRub can make some adults feel better without really making them better. "For kids, because it can induce some inflammation, even a little bit, that little bit might be enough to tip over a child to having problems," he said.

The findings were published in the January issue of the journal Chest.

To test whether Vicks VapoRub could cause respiratory distress, the researchers conducted experiments with ferrets. The animals were chosen because they have airways similar to human airways, Rubin said.

The researchers found that Vicks VapoRub increased mucus production by up to 59 percent; the ability to clear mucus was reduced by 36 percent.

David Bernens, a spokesman for Proctor & Gamble, the makers of Vicks VapoRub, doesn't think one incident involving one child means that the product is unsafe.

"The product is safe and effective when used as directed," he said. "To say it was the Vicks VapoRub that caused the respiratory distress -- I'm not sure we have made that link yet."

Dr. James A. L. Mathers Jr., president of the American College of Chest Physicians, said in an association news release: "Parents should consult with a physician before administering any over-the-counter medicine to infants and young children. Furthermore, the American College of Chest Physicians and several other health-care organizations have concluded that over-the-counter cough and cold medicines can be harmful for infants and young children and are, therefore, not recommended."

In October, major manufacturers and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that over-the-counter cough and cold medicines should not be used by children younger than 4 years old.

Dr. Daniel Craven, a pediatric pulmonologist at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland, said parents shouldn't use Vicks VapoRub, because it has no medicinal value and may even be dangerous.

"Previous research has failed to demonstrate any respiratory benefits of VapoRub, and conscientious pediatricians have thus usually tried to dissuade families from spending money on this and similarly ineffective therapies," Craven said. "Although the findings are someone limited, this study raises the possibility that this product may not just be ineffective, but possibly might have adverse respiratory consequences -- particularly if there is an intense exposure -- as when it is applied directly under the nostrils."

Classic Wood High Chairs by Rochelle

This is one of my favorite high chairs. Although it’s not for everyone, some will absolutely love the look and feel of this traditional wooden high chair. It looks like an expensive piece of furniture.This piece is an heirloom to be kept in the family and passed down to each new family addition. The more traditional ones look great in a Grandparents home. The more contemporary modern styles not only look great in any home, but it looks like another piece of your favorite furniture. For those of you that do not like all the gadgets and do-dads that the new plastic high chairs have and want to keep the look and feel basic, this is the high chair for you.

If you like a more traditional style to match your oak dining table, I would recommend the Rochelle Lowell Oak High Chair.

I highly recommend getting the tray protector. It makes cleanup a snap and should extend the life of your chair for generations to come!

If you have a more contemporary, modern style, you can choose your favorite between the Memphis, the Charlotte, and the Windsor Chairs.

They offer several different shades of wood stains to match your furniture - Natural Maple, Honey Maple, Heritage Cherry, and Oak.

Please note, as with all woods, they tend to start out a few shades lighter than the rest of your furniture that has been around the house for years. Don’t worry, they will darken with time. The most obvious difference will be noticed if you purchase a natural maple chair. They arrive very blonde looking, but within a few months you will see it darkening to a beautiful color. I used to work at a children’s store and every time we would put a new natural crib on the floor, it would look almost white washed. After a few weeks, it looked like all the rest of our older natural cribs.

Grandma's greatest gift / Jacilyn Dalenberg served as surrogate mother to deliver daughter's triplets

Kim and Joe Coseno of Ashland have had their hearts broken repeatedly. It took the arrival of three little girls to mend them.

The Cosenos welcomed biological triplets into their lives Oct. 11 after trying for years to adopt. Kim Coseno's mother, Jacilyn Dalenberg of Mansfield, acted as a surrogate, enabling Kim and Joe Coseno to finally realize their dream of having children together.

"We knew we wanted to raise a family together," Kim Coseno said. "It's just a dream that has been fulfilled now."

Wooster native Kim Coseno had two children -- Brittni Wilkinson and Colin Anderson -- when she met Joe Coseno six years ago. The two married three years ago and have since investigated both private and international adoption to no avail.

Kim Coseno said she and her husband have "such an incredible marriage" and wanted to share their lives with more children.

"We love people in our house," Kim Coseno said. "We love kids in our house. We can't wait to have the house filled up."

Dalenberg volunteered to act as a surrogate after hearing of her daughter's struggles with adoption. Before she even shared the news with the Cosenos, Dalenberg already had visited the doctor's office and been cleared for the procedure.

"I was extremely surprised and kind of shocked," Joe Coseno said. "It didn't even seem like it was possible."

"She's absolutely amazing," Kim Coseno said. "She's an amazing person."

Joe Coseno said Dalenberg's health was their primary concern. He and his wife ensured she had the best team of doctors to monitor her every step of the process.

"We didn't want her jeopardizing herself to help us out," he said.

Through in vitro fertilization, the process to add to the Coseno family began. It took three embryo transfers before doctors called with positive bloodwork levels; the Cosenos were having twins. Nine weeks later, one of the embryos split into a set of identical twins.

Dalenberg carried the triplets without any problems and was expected to carry full term. However, the twins developed twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome -- a disease in which one twin receives the majority of blood because the twins share a placenta -- and had to be delivered 91/2 weeks early.

"It wasn't because of her age that she delivered early," Kim Coseno said. "She was very, very healthy."

The Cosenos named their triplets -- Elizabeth Jacilyn, Carmina Ann and Gabriella Claire -- after family members, all of whom helped through the process.

The triplets each weighed between two and three pounds at birth and have yet to be brought to the Coseno's Ashland home from Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights. Kim Coseno said her daughters are expected to be home by Thanksgiving.

"We are so happy that they're actually here and healthy and that her mom's doing well," Joe Coseno said. "We just can't wait to get them home."

Joe Coseno is a firefighter for the Ashland Fire Department and Kim Coseno was a nurse. She now plans to stay at home with her children.

OrbitBaby Stroller - NBC's The Office Sitcom

Ok. Are any of you fans of The Office? My family loves the show and when we watched it this week, I said, Oh.. That's an Orbit Baby Stroller. I know the brand and it is very expensive. So, imagine my shock when they destroyed the $1200 dollar stroller on the episode. I had my hands over my mouth in shock the entire time Dwight had his hands on it. "The Bumper Test", etc. It's funny that a distributor would agree to have this done to their product. I know this gets their name out there to the general population that may not have heard of the brand before, but no stroller can go through that torcher and still be usable. Well, aside from the craziness on the episode, it is a pretty interesting stroller system. It is pretty far out of the affordable price range for most people, but you may have seen it around the more upscale malls or in the celebrity magazines and wondered what it is and how much it costs. It is more than the price of the Bugaboo Cameleon that you have seen strolling around town, but with the Orbit System, you get the Car Seat too.

I have had the chance to see this system up close and see how it works. My favorite features are the bassinet rocker base, that you can see on the episode and the "zoo mode" that the stroller offers. This is the ability to turn your child to the side so they can see things you are passing as in a trip to the zoo where everything you walk by is to your right, not straight ahead. It is a really neat feature that you do not see on other strollers. Is it worth $1200 dollars? Well, if you have the money to spend, that would be for you to determine. I myself would go for something more affordable like the Perego Pliko P3 stroller with the Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 Infant Car Seat at about a 3rd of the cost of the OrbitBaby Stroller System. What are your thoughts?

Ready for Delivery? What to pack for the Hospital.

Please post suggestions or advice you have to offer. This list is from my favorite source, What to Expect When You're Expecting.

Labor Gear:

Pen and pad, for taking notes, or the What to Expect Pregnancy Organizer
Your birth plan (several copies, so all staff, on all shifts, can get one)
Stopwatch to time contractions
Massage oils or lotions
Your favorite pillow
If you have long hair, a clip or scrunchie to keep it out of your face
Sugarless candies or lollipops to keep your mouth moist
A tennis ball or plastic rolling pin — both make excellent backrub tools — or an actual massager
Snacks for during labor (your own snacks will be limited, and must be approved by your practitioner; your partner should pack sandwiches and nutritious nibbles so he doesn't have to leave your side to find something to eat)
Diversions for a long labor: music, puzzles, magazines, books, a deck of cards, laptop, handheld electronic games
Any mementos you'll want with you, such as family photos
Your Who to Call list, and a prepaid phone card or calling card (be forewarned: Most hospitals don't allow cell phones)
Camera and/or video camera — even if you don't want to capture your labor and delivery experience, you'll definitely want to capture your baby on film, and someone in the room will be happy to take your first family portrait
A small basket of goodies for the staff to give along with the birth plan

Personal Items:

A baby care book, like What to Expect the First Year (if you want to lug it and think you'll have a chance to look at it)
A baby book for recording everything (ditto)
Toothbrush, toothpaste, and mouthwash
Hairbrush and comb
All your essential toiletry items (don't forget moisturizer)
Extra absorbent maxi-pads (the hospital will provide some, but you might want to use the brand you're most comfortable with)
Snacks for after delivery — don't count on the hospital or birthing center to provide them in the middle of the night
Champagne or sparkling cider to celebrate with
Shower gel, face wash, shampoo, conditioner, makeup, and whatever else it takes to make you feel human again after delivery

Clothes:

Extra pairs of underwear suitable for wearing with maxi-pads (no thongs, in other words) and a nursing bra
Nightgown or pj's, socks, and slippers
Comfortable outfit to head home in (remember you'll still look six months pregnant, so plan accordingly)
Going-home outfit for baby (don't forget socks or booties and a receiving blanket, plus extra layers if it's cold). Bring along a few diapers, although the hospital will probably provide them.

Other Essentials:

Rear-facing infant car seat. This won't go in the suitcase with you, of course, but when it comes time to take your newborn home, your partner should know how to find it quickly and install it correctly. Better still, install it in advance so you're ready to roll (after you're both checked out by the hospital staff).

What is Bisphenol A?

Bisphenol A is a harmful chemical found in polycarbonate plastic which is used to make many popular baby bottles and sippy cups, among other things. Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical that mimics the action of the human hormone estrogen, which alters our body’s natural pattern. BPA can leach from polycarbonate plastic, usually a hard, clear plastic that is common of many products we use everyday. Effects at even low BPA exposure include prostate cancer, breast cancer, early puberty onset, alterations in gender-specific behavior, decreased sperm count, affects on fertility, behavioral effects including hyperactivity, increased aggressiveness, impaired learning and other changes in behavior, and other problems.

What do I need to have at home to be ready for my New Baby?

One of the most stressful times can be the last weeks of your pregnancy. Do I have everything I need for my new baby? The last thing you want to worry about is not having the basics and sending Dad out in the middle of the night to pick something up that you didn't realize you needed beforehand.

The question I receive the most from expectant mothers nearing their due date is: What do I need to have at home to be ready for my New Baby?

At the request of a few of my pregnant friends, I have compiled a list of suggested items you should have ready for your new baby's arrival.

Please post any additional items or suggestions you recommend and we will consider adding them to our list.
